Recap of Super City Rangers performance against Saints

The James Blond Super City Rangers made a major change to their playing roster in the lead up to their Bartercard NBL double header last weekend. US import Eric Devendorf had not been able to shrug off a lingering back injury and was replaced by Australian guard Jason Cadee. Although he top scored with 20 points Cadee’s addition to the Rangers squad had little impact on Saturday as they slipped to a heavy defeat, 95-59 against the Waikato Pistons in a strange lack lustre performance. The Bartercard NBL returns to North Harbour after a two year absence next Sunday. Unfortunately for the Harbour faithful the game does not feature the Harbour Heat instead it is the James Blond Super City Rangers who will be running out at AUT to take on the table topping Wellington Saints. The 16 year old Rangitoto College student has been invited to attend the prestigious Jordan Brand Classic, home of the USA’s premier high school All-Star games. Now in it’s 13th year, the Classic features the best high school players from the US and across the globe. Continue reading

Four to Follow in ’14 NBL – Rusbatch

Four to follow in the NBL in 2014 –No 2

Like many other Canterbury basketball players with ambition to play in the NBL the tragedy that was the Christchurch earthquake forced them to pursue their careers away from home.

Ethan Rusbatch is such a player. In 2012 he played a few games for Zero Fees Southland Sharks before moving north in 2013, joining Taranaki Mountain Airs. The 21 year old swingman enjoyed a successful season with the Airs averaging 9.4 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. Continue reading

Abercrombie departs for Lyon

Tom Abercrombie departed Auckland airport on Monday afternoon bound for Lyon, France.

He is joining Asvel Lyon-Villeurbanne until the end of the French season. The French club is currently 14-11, sitting 5th on the Pro A League ladder, two wins behind the league leaders Le Mans. Continue reading
