NBL returns to North Harbour

The Bartercard NBL returns to North Harbour after a two year absence next Sunday. Unfortunately for the Harbour faithful the game does not feature the Harbour Heat instead it is the James Blond Super City Rangers who will be running out at AUT to take on the table topping Wellington Saints.

However, the North Harbour Basketball Asociation are to be applauded for this initiative, partnering their cross town rivals, Waitakere in bringing the game to the Shore.

The mere thought of a Harbour Heat team set me thinking what a 2014 line up might look like. These players all played age group basketball for Harbour but would need a couple of import bigs to make them a competitive team;

Corey Webster (Saints), Jarrod Kenny, Marco Alexander, Anamata Haku (Hawks), Brad Anderson (Taranaki), Jack Salt, Karl Noyer, Alex Talma, Matt Lacey (Pistons), Cam Stuart (Rangers).

Then I drifted into dream world and began to put together a current Harbour ALL STAR Team. I’m sure this bunch would win the NBL without any imports.

Spoilt for choice amongst the guards with Corey and Tai Webster, Kirk Penney and Jarrod Kenny. Tom Abercrombie would be the three man and Isaac Fotu would be in the four spot. Starting centre would be Rob Loe and Jack Salt a more than capable back up.

That’s eight current or recent Tall Blacks and they would of course be coached by San Antonio Spurs assistant Sean Marks.

I then began to think who would be the ninth and tenth picks but then woke up to find they had already won the league!

Oh, the game this Sunday tips off at 3pm at AUT Sports Centre, Akoranga Drive, Northcote, see you there.
