Sport can be cruel.
Despite the Sky Sport Tall Ferns recording a memorable 69-65 victory against Korea at the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Auckland on Sunday the margin of the win wasn’t great enough to carry the Kiwis to the next stage of Olympic qualification.
With points differential deciding the placings it was China (+22) and Korea (-3) that pipped New Zealand (-19) to book their places at the final Olympic Qualifying Tournament in February.
“Funny things can happen in tournaments, Korea had an amazing win against China so we had a big ask today. But I couldn’t be any more proud of the team,” said New Zealand Head Coach Guy Molloy.
