Breakers by Numbers and stuff!

Corey Webster must be in a good space at the moment. Recently married, he scored a career high 25 points in the Breakers 80-72 victory against Melbourne United on Friday night.

Webster is the leading points scorer for the club this season – 170 points at 15.5 ppg.

Reuben Te Rangi made his 50th appearance in a SKY CITY Breakers singlet against United.  The young swingman may not have rediscovered his shooting touch but he found many other ways to contribute adding 4 rebounds, 3 assists and a block to his 4 points in a strong performance He also played a career high 35 minutes in the absence of the injured Tom Abercrombie.

Duane Bailey (9pts/6rebs) also enjoyed extended playing time covering for Abercrombie and the foul ridden frontcourt. Bailey has had so little court time recently that he probably doesn’t know what type of form he is in. He certainly showed enough spark on Friday to suggest he warrants a little more regular playing time.

Marco Alexander was on the bench with the Melbourne United team at Vector Arena, he has a Development Player contract with United. Unfortunately the Kiwi guard has to undergo hip surgery that will prematurely end his NBL season.Following the operation he will rehab in Auckland before returning to Melbourne in January but realistically his next playing assignments are likely to be the New Zealand NBL in April.

Only 4,643 fans at Vector on Friday night must be a concern for Breakers management. With a winning team playing an attractive style of basketball you would have thought more fans would have turned up. Fingers crossed that the finish of student exams and the imminent arrival of school holidays will herald larger attendances in the second half of the season.
