Day 2 Update from Secondary School Premierships

Pool A is done and dusted in the Mens competition. Westlake A (4-0) were undefeated and Kristin (3-1) emerged as the runners up in the group after crucial wins against Mt Albert Grammar and Sacred Heart Auckland. Westlake will almost certainly face Auckland Grammar in the quarterfinals following their defeat to Rangitoto in Pool C. Grammar scored the first 12 points of the game but were gradually overhauled. Rangi led 63-56 at three quarter time, eventually winning 94-80. Rangi will go on to meet Kristin in the quarter final provided they win their last pool game.

On the other side of the draw Rosmini, with an unblemished record to date, will almost certainly win Pool B. The runners up spot will be decided on Friday morning when Dilworth face off against Avondale. Pood D has Onehunga (4-0) in the ascendancy after they beat Massey High 92-88 in a thriller early on Day 2. Provided Massey beat Green Bay on Friday, they will clinch second place in Pool D.

As predicted, Rangitoto Girls and Westlake Girls, both undefeated, will comfortably win their respected pools. Westlake gained a crucial win against Mt Albert Grammar, 76-71 today to secure top spot in Pool A. Mt Albert look the likely runners up in this pool and will meet Rangitoto on Day 3 in the semi final. Westlake look likely to meet the winner of the Auckland Girls Grammar v Massey High clash, which will take place early tomorrow morning. The looser of this game will have to come through the 5-8 playoff to earn one of the two remaining qualifying spots for Nationals, as only the top 6 teams progress to Palmerston North.
