Senior A – Round 9 wrap

In the Auckland Secondary Schools Girl’s Senior A League St Kentigern College continue to set the pace following Round 9 games.

In other results Auckland Girls Grammar notched their first win of the season and Pukekohe recorded a valuable win to enhance their chances of a top-4 finish. 

A balanced St Kentigern scoring effort proved too good for Northcote College despite 16 points from forward Lucy Shepherd.

St Kent’s finished the first quarter with a 14-0 run to assert authority on proceedings and with Sophie Jones knocking down a brace of threes the advantage was 36-21 at half-time.

It was more of the same in the second half with Shar Tapling and Ash Tuumaialu to the fore.

Pukekohe High School were paced by Abby Crane’s 24 points as they defeated Mount Roskill Grammar 64-49.

Savannah Cook looked to be heading for 50 points when she rattled off 30 first half points. In the end the One Tree Hill guard settled for 45 as her team defeated Avondale 81-66

Leah Patuwairua’s 34 points paced Auckland Girls Grammar to their first win of the season.

Boy’s Senior A Results

Both the top two teams in the Boy’s Senior A competition came unstuck on Friday with Sacred Heart College defeated at Northcote College and Mount Roskill Grammar losing their unbeaten record at Aorere.

In a high scoring encounter Northcote College guard Aaron Sievert (33 points) converted a floater in the dying seconds to give his team a 106-105 lead.

Sacred Heart tried to counter from an inbounds play but couldn’t get the shot off before the final whistle.


“It was a great game to be a part of and Northcote were worthy winners in a tight and tough contest,” said Sacred Heart Coach Mike Robinson.
