March Madness – Wetzell and Fahrensohn begin Kiwi Men’s challenge.

At a glance – see who is playing where and when as the Men’s NCAA Division I Tournament Conference Championships beckon. Yanni Wetzell begin proceedings although a number of players are in their final week of regular season play.

NB All games are US time therefore a day behind NZ –  ie games scheduled for March 5 in the States are played Friday March 6 in NZ

 March 5th

 Yanni Wetzell (San Diego State University)

San Diego State, the regular season champions, enter the Mountain West Conference Tournament as red hot favourites boasting an overall record of 28-1 and a conference win-loss of 17-1. They take on the winner of the first round fixture between Air Force and Fresno State for a semi-final berth. Wetzell has this week been named to the All-Mountain West Conference Third Team.

Takiula Fahrensohn (University of Portland)

The Pilots, seeded #10 in the West Coast Conference will meet #7 Santa Clara for a place in the second round of the WCC with the winner to face Pepperdine.

 March 7th

 

Dan Fotu (St Mary’s College, California)

With a third place finish St Mary’s (11-5) head directly to the West Coast Conference quarter finals against a yet to be decided opponent.

 

Flynn Cameron (DePaul University)

A disappointing 2-14 in the Big East Conference the Blue Demons meet Providence in their final regular season game.

 

Tobias Cameron (Abilene Christian University)

Abilene will face Incarnate Word University in their final Southland Conference regular season fixture. At 14-4 Abilene have a shot at clinching the second seeding for the conference tournament next week.

 

Max de Geest (Long Beach State University)

Long Beach State (5-9) will visit Cal State Fullerton in their final Big West Conference fixture.

 

Matt Freeman (UC Santa Barbara)

Also in Big West Conference play Santa Barbara (8-6) will host Call Poly.

 

Callum McRae & Angus McWilliam (University of California, Riverside)

The third Big West Conference team with Kiwi interest are UC Riverside (6-9). They entertain UC Davis in the regular season finale.

 

Izayah Mauriahooho-Le’afa (Sacramento State University)

The senior guard plays his final regular season game for the Hornets at Portland State.

 

Jackson Stent (Houston Baptist University)

Houston Baptist Huskies wrap up Southland Conference play with a road trip to Texas A&M Corpus Christie. With just the top eight teams progressing to the Championship Tournament the  3-15 Huskies miss out.

 

Sam Timmins (University of Washington)

Washington head to Arizona for their final Pac 12 encounter hoping to improve on their 3-13 record ahead of the play-offs.

 

Sam Waardenburg (University of Miami)

Miami travel to Georgia Tech for their final ACC regular season game with a 6-12 conference record ahead of tournament play.

 

March 8th

 

Kruz Perrott-Hunt (University of South Dakota)

USD (10-6) will carry third seeding into the Summit League play-offs where they will take on #6 North Dakota.

 

Anzac Rissetto (University of North Carolina at Charlotte)

Charlotte will host Louisiana Tech in their final Conference USA fixture ahead of the play-offs hoping to improve on their 9-7 record.
