Mega Leks picked up its first win in the Serbian Super League defeating Tamis 102-61, a damaging 26-11 second quarter consigned Tamis to their fourth straight loss.

Corey Webster scored 12 points (4/7FG) and added 4 rebounds and a couple of steals as his team improved to 3-1.

Three days earlier Mega Leks were defeated 78-69 by Metalac Farmakom, Webster top scored for Leks with 16 points

The three Tall Blacks currently playing in Spain are all with clubs locked in a battle to avoid relegation from Liga Endesa, the premier Spanish League. Unfortunately all three clubs suffered losses at the weekend.

Isaac Fotu came face to face with the CIA Zaragoza team he originally signed for in the Spanish League. It seems likely that he will rejoin Zaragoza for next season but for now he is focusing on keeping the team he was loaned out to, La Bruixa d’Or Manresa, away from relegation.

On this occasion Zaragoza protected their home court, winning 82-77. Once again Fotu was prominent scoring 15 points (6/10FG) in 23 minutes.

Kirk Penney and his club Sevilla hosted Grand Canaria, the visitors featuring Australian Boomer Brad Newley (16 points) in their line up.

Cheered on by a crowd close to 6,000 Penney led all scorers with 22 points including 6 from 10 three’s. Unfortunately the shooting guard’s effort was in vain as Sevilla went down 83-75.

The next time Newley and Penney square off will likely be in the Australia versus New Zealand Olympic Qualifying series in August.

Tom Abercrombie played 10 minutes off the bench for Gipuzkoa as they were defeated 99-68 at UCAM Murcia – Abercrombie contributed 5 points

As can be seen from the table below any two of four clubs could be relegated.

Bottom 5 Liga Endesa Standings with 2 rounds to play:

14th Andorra 12-20

15th Gipuzkoa 10-22

16th Sevilla 10-22

17th La Bruixa d’Or Manresa 9-23

18th Fuenlabrada 8-24

Mika Vukona’s stay in Italy has been short lived. He will return to New Zealand later this week as his Virtus Acea Roma club have missed out on a top eight play-off spot in Serie A. Following a 75-78 home defeat to AV Cantu, Roma has finished 10th on the ladder with a 12-18 record. In 8 minutes the Breakers captain scored 2 points and grabbed a couple of rebounds.

KAO Dramas were defeated 84-80 by Kolossos Rodou in a midweek Greek League fixture.

Rob Loe contributed 9 points and 7 rebounds off the bench for Dramas and followed that up with 5p/3r/2a as Dramas were defeated by fifth placed AEK Athens 77-66 at the weekend.

The two defeats consigned Dramas to ninth place on the table, one win shy of a top eight play-off spot.
