The three Tall Blacks currently playing in Spain are all with clubs locked in a battle to avoid relegation from Liga Endesa, the premier Spanish League.
There was some welcome relief on Friday night for Isaac Fotu and his La Bruixa d’Or Manresa team. They clashed with fellow cellar dwellers Fuenlabrada and came up trumps in a very tense affair, 68-53. Both teams entered the game with an 8-22 record but it was Manresa who prevailed, Fotu contributing a valuable 9 points (4/8FG) and 5 rebounds. Manresa point guard Davin White was the star of the show, leading all scorers with 21 points and adding 9 assists.
Manresa moved off the bottom of the ladder much to the relief of their 4,500 fans packed into the home stadium.
Kirk Penney and his Spanish club Sevilla entered the game at Andorra on the back of some reasonable form having won seven of their twelve outings since the shooting guard arrived at the club.
However, a thumping 89-65 away defeat against the team just one place above them on the ladder means they have slipped back into the group of teams trying to avoid the drop. Kirk Penney scored 7 points (3/7FG) for Sevilla, Australian Boomers forward Nathan Jawai was prominent for Andorra (16 points/8 rebounds).
Tom Abercrombie played 9 minutes off the bench for Gipuzkoa as they had a vital 77-76 overtime win against Iberostar Tenerife. Played at the impressive San Sebastian Arena, Abercrombie knocked down 6 points including a trademark jump shot triple, much to the delight of the 6,000 hometown fans.
With just three rounds of the regular season remaining it looks certain the relegation battle will go down to the final round of games.
Current Liga Endesa Standings:
14th Andorra 12-19
15th Gipuzkoa 10-21

Mika Vukona produced a solid 8pts/4 rebounds (2 offensive)/2 assists performance for his Italian club Virtus Acea Roma club but unfortunately Roma went down 90-77 at Granarolo Bologna.
Trailing 48-41 at half time Roma lost the third period 20-14 and with it the opportunity of overturning their more fancied rivals. More significantly any chance of securing a top eight play-off spot evaporated at the same time.
Bologna (15-14) retains eighth spot but Roma (12-17) are now out of play-off contention with just one round of the regular season to play.
Corey Webster and his Mega Leks teammates headed to Greece last week for a couple of friendly games before competition resumes in the Serbian League.
Leks played a couple of games against highly rated PAOK Thessaloniki who are currently ranked fourth in the Greek League.
The first outing was a disaster for the Serbian visitors, hammered 72-48, with Webster admitting he had a bad night.
However Webster and his team bounced back in style in game two winning 98-91. The Kiwi sharp shooter led all scorers as he knocked down 27 points.
Leks now head back to Serbia for a busy climax to the Serbian Super League, having to play 11 games in 30 days.
