Rangitoto College may have been without the formidable frontcourt of Yuat Alok and Tai Wynyard but they were still much too powerful for Rosmini College in the opening round of the Auckland Premier Basketball competition
Alok was resting a sore back and Wynyard was in Invercargill with the Super City Rangers but their colleagues took care of business winning 97-44.
A 19-0 opening salvo from the Rangi starters set the tone for the evening and although Rosmini tried hard they were simply outgunned by the depth and talent of the Rangitoto squad.
Sam Waardenburg (29pts/17rebs) was outstanding for the hosts and had 18 points at half-time when Rangitoto led 53-16. Isaac Davidson (16pts) and Josiah Williams (12pts) along with some eye-catching moments from Dan Fotu continued the dominant form of Rangi.
Tane Wattie (16pts) gave a sterling performance for Rosmini who were not helped when Kruz Perrott-Hunt had to leave the court early in the second quarter with a damaged ankle.
The Girls game was also a one sided affair as Rangitoto dominated Auckland Premier Competition debutants Orewa College 87-16.
The Rangitoto scoring was headed by Rebecca Hughes (14pts), Gracie Haster-Ewin (12pts) and Annalina Crosbie (11pts). Katie Diakhaby (8pts) led the Orewa effort.
In another result Westlake Girls were too strong for St Kentigern College breezing to a 94-29 win.
