Erin Rooney was the only Tall Fern in professional action overseas this week. Unfortunately Arras was defeated in the French championship, 85-66 by Toulouse. This was a surprising result given that Toulouse are sitting 10th on the table and Arras 4th with a 13-7 record. Rooney scored just 3 points and added a solitary rebound and 3 assists in 26 minutes court time.
Micaela Cocks and Jillian Harmon enjoyed a well-earned break as they and their Townsvile Fire teammates were interested observes as Bendigo Spirit and Sydney University Flames were engaged in the WNBL Preliminary Final. Defending champions Bendigo proved too strong for Sydney, winning 85-77, meaning they will travel to Townsville for the Grand Final next weekend
In the Greek league Dramas (6-12) had a good win 78-62 against Korolvos (7-10), the win moves Dramas up a spot to 11th on the ladder. Rob Loe had a solid game scoring 7 points, grabbing a game high 9 rebounds and dishing an assist.
In Spain both Isaac Fotu and Kirk Penney suffered defeats at the weekend.
La Bruixa d’Or Manresa suffered their 4th straight loss, 80-64 at Andorra. Manresa would have been disappointed with their effort given both teams entered the game with an identical 5-16 record. Fotu contributed 10 points and 6 rebounds with Manresa now anchored at the foot of the table.
Penney scored 12 points (2/4 3pts) as Sevilla (6-15) slipped to a home defeat against UCAM Murcia (9-12). Sevilla had won three straight games since the arrival of Penney but he was unable to stop Sevilla slipping to a 96-83 loss. They maintain 15th position on the 18-team ladder.
Licher Basket (7-14) ranked 10th in the German B League South Division visited top of the table Iserlohn (16-4) on Sunday.
Jarrod Kenny posted 5 points, 6 rebounds and an assist as Licher went down 70-63, a creditable performance against their high flying rivals.
