For the second time this season Rangitoto College recorded a win against local rivals Westlake Boys, edging home 73-69. The game was played in an excellent atmosphere, both sets of supporters providing vociferous backing for their respective teams.
The scores were locked 21 apiece at quarter time before Rangitoto surged to a half time lead, 42-35. Westlake locked down the Rangi scorers in the third period restricting the home team to just 8 points in the period, leading 51-50 at the three quarter break.
It was neck and neck in the final period before a late surge on the back of a couple of Yuat Alok buckets secured the win for the blue and reds.
The previous meeting of these two teams was also a tight affair, Rangi winning that one by just two points, meetings later in the season promise to be just as tight.
Rangitoto College 73 – Tai Wynyard 22/17rebs, Alok 14, Joseph Nunag 13.
Westlake Boys 69 – Yani Wetzell 16/10rebs, Jackson Stent 14, Jaylen Gerrand 13.
Rangitoto Girls secured a reasonably comfortable 74-56 win against Massey High School. Ella Fotu (14pts) led the Rangitoto scoring ably supported by Kenya Brooke and Sanja Kondic who both scored a dozen points. Wuanyei Ah-Hing was outstanding for the visitors scoring a game high 30 points.
Westlake Girls strengthened their top of the table position, beating St Kentigern College 78-56.
All teams now take a three week break from competition over the school holidays.
