Rangitoto College warmed up for their Auckland Premier Basketball top of the table clash with Westlake next week by defeating Onehunga High School 75-59 on Friday night.
Rangitoto opened up a 26-14 first quarter advantage, extended to 38-23 by half time. Harry Cutfield triggered some nice offence for the home team matched by Lesae Coe for Onehunga.
It looked as if the Rangi boys would run away with the game in the second half but credit to the Onehunga players, they stuck manfully to the task and never allowed the deficit to become unmanageable.
53-39 behind at three quarter time Onehunga with Coe and Liam Tasi outstanding closed to within ten points with three minutes to play. Yuat Alok, twice and Sam Armitt scored three quick baskets to ease any Rangitoto anxiety but they will know they will need to play a lot better when they visit local rivals Westlake next week.
