The Sky City Breakers season concluded in a fashion that has become all too typical this season. A strong start, ahead 55-46 at half time followed by a stuttering finish. Just 28 second half points as they fell to the Cairns Taipans 95-83.
2 – The only happy Kiwi in Vector Arena was Brook Ruscoe making just his second ANBL appearance for the Taipans before rejoining the Nelson Giants for the upcoming New Zealand NBL.
3 – Casey Frank scored just 3 points but it was enough to take him past 200 points for the Breakers. He scored his 100th point for the club back in November 2003!
11 – The number of points scored by CJ in his 179th and final game for the Breakers.
13 – points scored by Mika Vukona, plus 10 rebounds as he chalked up yet another double double – his 29th in a Breakers singlet.
24 – The game high number of points scored by Taipans forward Alex Loughton. Loughton enjoyed the win and also told the media he was probably one of the few present for CJ’s first and last NBL game. He was a schoolboy in the crowd when CJ made his debut for Perth Wildcats in 1994 and on the court on Friday when he bowed out. Like many others Loughton paid tribute to Bruton the player and the person.
2,049 – The number of points CJ amassed for the Breakers – only Kirk Penney (2,517) has scored more.
7,947 – The number of fans that turned out to pay tribute to CJ Bruton – nice to see a large number of his family in attendance. Shout out to Austin Bruton, younger brother of CJ who hopped on a plane on Saturday in order to be back in Perth to play for the Stirling Sabres in the WA State league on Saturday night – big effort.
