Two weeks after making his 350th NBL appearance Daryl Corletto is fast approaching another significant milestone. The Breakers opponents on Thursday are the Melbourne Tigers, Corletto’s former club and he requires just a further 13 points to top 3000 career points. Corletto made 277 appearances for the Tigers but his focus this week will be to help the Breakers to a second win in seven days as they strive to improve their 3-6 start to the season
The Tigers are a top four team and have won four of their last six games and have just acquired import Mustapha Farrakhan who replaced Ayinde Ubaka, released for personal reasons. Farrakhan, a graduate of the University of Virginia is a left-handed combo guard who can help Nate Tomlinson with the point guard duties and also assist with the shooting guard responsibilities.
The Tigers also boast the NBL’s leading scorer, the dynamic Chris Goulding (averaging 27 points per game). Alex Pledger will be opposed by another seven-foot centre, Canadian Scott Morrison and of course the Tigers have the classy Mark Worthington in the forward spot. He and Mika Vukona have had many memorable contests over the years at club and international level – it should be fun watching the two go head to head once more.
Some milestones from last Friday’s games v Townsville Crocodiles:
Alex Pledger with 3 blocks became the club’s all time leading shot blocker – 109 blocked shots in 116 appearances.
Tom Abercrombie, with a season high 24 points became the 4th SKY CITY Breakers player to pass 1600 points for the club. The others are Kirk Penney (2517), CJ Bruton (1935) and Aaron Olson (1800).
Gary Wilkinson, with 12 points passed 1100 points for the club and chalked up his 50th win in a SKY CITY Breakers singlet.
