Carter shines against the Wildcats

Rhys-Carter---1200Quite rightly Cedric Jackson received most of the plaudits for orchestrating the Breakers impressive 80-70 victory against the Wildcats in Perth on Friday night. However the efforts of Rhys Carter are worthy of a little more scrutiny. Continue reading

Casey Frank Still Nameless and More from the Cairns Victory

The man with the nameless singlet, No48 Casey Frank once again made a significant contribution as the SKY CITY Breakers eventually eased past the Cairns Taipans 96-78 on Friday evening. Frank has been with the club for six weeks and likely to remain on the payroll for at least another fortnight and possibly until the end of the season. Surely the club can afford to sew five letters on the back of his playing singlet. Continue reading

Trivia Tuesday

Gary Wilkinson, who is poised to become the 9th Breaker to score 1300 points for the club, posted a career high 33 points against Sydney Kings on Saturday taking his season tally to 246 points and his career total to 1299.

Wilkinson made a sluggish start to the season. Arriving a month into the campaign as a replacement for Darnell Lazare, Wilkinson was in reasonable condition but certainly not in game shape.

The 31 year old from Utah produced only two double-digit scoring games in his first six outings. However, since the Breakers Xmas break he has averaged 20.7 points a game in seven fixtures as well as securing 6 rebounds per game.

Despite the aforementioned slow start his season output currently sits at 15.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. These figures compare very favourably with the vintage form he displayed in the championship winning 2011-12 season. Back then he averaged 16.0 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.

‘Big Red’ is firing but will this be enough to propel the Breakers into the play-offs?

Breakers Go Down Despite Wilkinson Heroics

Despite a career high 33 points from Gary Wilkinson, the SKY CITY Breakers suffered a heart breaking two points loss to the Sydney Kings, 98-96 in Sydney on Saturday. The accompanying Breakers supporters tour had plenty to cheer about as an exciting game unfolded. Wilkinson nailed four consecutive triples in the third period but ultimately he and the team will rue missed scoring opportunities in the dying seconds.

Webster energises Breakers

The Sky City Breakers, spurred by 20 points performances from Kerron Johnson, Gary Wilkinson and Tom Abercrombie eventually overcame the Wollongong Hawks 106-101 at NSEC on Thursday evening. Twenty points or more from three Breakers players in the same game is a little unusual, last occurring against the Melbourne Tigers in last season’s penultimate regular season game. Continue reading
