Senior A Girls Round 9 Wrap

Round 9 of the Auckland Secondary Schools Girl’s Senior A competition saw wins for Manurewa High School, Carmel College and Mt Roskill Grammar School.

Manurewa High School secured a 73-37 victory at Auckland Girls Grammar School to further enhance their prospects of a semi-final berth in the end of season play-offs.

Faith Hurt’s 13 first quarter points meant Grammar, although trailing 22-16, were well in contention at quarter time.

Tanisha Tanira scored 11 first half points for Manurewa, and Zhendy Li 7, as the visitors carved out a 35-24 half-time lead.

Manurewa bossed the second half as made threes from Alyssa Uluheua, Emily Tanira and Beautiful Campbell helped them to a comfortable victory.

Melaia Tuisuva dropped straight threes to open the One Tree Hill college scoring but it was Carmel College with the stronger overall start as they opened up a 27-18 lead at quarter time.

In a free scoring game Carmel were enjoying scoring production from multiple sources – Ella Drake, Millie Lloyd, Annie Gaylard and Zahara Tibbotts propelling Carmel to a 54-38 half time lead.

Harriate Heta and Tuisuva kept the One Tree Hill scoring ticking over after the interval although a triple from Drake, and 6 points from Ruby Railton, meant the Carmel advantage was extended to 69-49 at the three-quarter mark.

Carmel enhanced their lead further in the fourth – a sixth win keeping them firmly inside the top four on the ladder.

One Tree Hill 57 – Heta 19, Tuisuva 18, Arise Maliepo 7, Kizyra Thompson 7

Carmel 89 – Drake 20, Tibbotts 15, Railton 14, Gaylard 13, Lloyd 9, Hannah Bellett 8

Shiloh Caffery was outstanding for Avondale College in a losing cause. Caffery scored 29 of her team’s points as they went down 73-37 to Mt Roskill Grammar School.

Allie O’Callaghan was in terrific shooting form for Mt Roskill making six triples in her 22 points.

Bileeana Koonwaiyou and Tamara Viviana also made valuable double figure contributions for Roskill.
