June 22, 2023

The Boy’s Senior A Round 8 game of the round saw Northcote College preserve their unbeaten record, but only just, as they won at Dilworth School 79-78 in overtime.

The individual standout performances belonged to Ezrah Eagle who compiled a new career high 39 points for Dilworth with the dependable Aaron Sievert, averaging 37.6 points per game, mustering 42 for Northcote.

The opening period went the way of the visitors 19-18, a couple of scores from Tyler Aitcheson helping the visitors cause.

Despite 6 points in the second from Ikahui Mahe to compliment Eagle’s double figure haul the Northcote lead was 58-54 at the interval. Tane Cook had 10 points for Northcote at the half – Sievert 29 points to his name.

Dilworth shaded the third (22-20) to set up an exciting final period.

Kingston Kailahi-Aso and Finlay Edwards made scores to supplement Eagle’s strong work while Sievert received able assistance from Cook. However at the end of regulation the two teams couldn’t be separated – locked at 73 points apiece.

Eagle’s overtime three threatened to derail Northcote’s unbeaten run but it was Sievert who had the final say – his 301st point of the season, from the foul line, proving to be the winner.
