Taine Wattie opened proceedings for the hosts with a baseline three but it only took Tai Wynyard a few seconds to demonstrate his power and class as he unleashed the first of a series of above the ring power plays. The first quarter was competitive, although a Nathan Curran unsportsmanlike foul followed by a bench technical didn’t help the Saints cause – Rangi ahead 23-16 at the break. Wynyard led all scorers with 15 points at the half time interval as Rangitoto extended their lead to a comfortable 53-28. Isaac Fotu was in the crowd to witness his former school take complete control in the second half and he would have enjoyed watching his brother Dan demonstrate some athletic moves to basket. Rosmini, despite the encouragement of their enthusiastic supporters were no match for the table topping visitors who completely dominated the second half to run out winners, 118-54. A Rosmini player remarked after the game, “Rangi are stacked”. It’s hard to disagree based on the evidence of this performance. Final Score; Rosmini College 54 – Wattie 13p, Bowden 10p. Rangitoto College 118 – Wynyard 23p/10r, Isaac Davidson 18p/11a, Josiah Williams 18p, Sam Waardenburg 18p.
