Abercrombie Flying High into 2015

tom-abercrombie_103ughonn39zc12ys8dqe4fd9w-1As the SKY CITY Breakers roll into the second half of their season it is interesting to look at the 3 point shooting percentage being produced by Tom Abercrombie. On current form he is threatening a Breakers club record.

Best Single Season 3pts % all time for Breakers (min 50 shots)

50.0% – Tom Abercrombie (26/52) current

49.2% – CJ Bruton (90/183) 2008-9

43.4% – Tom Abercrombie (63/145) 2011-12

43.4% – Kirk Penney (111/256) 2007-8

Shooting the three ball at over 40% is regarded highly in the NBL and interestingly Abercrombie is looking like achieving this in three of the last four seasons. 2012-13 was the exception when his percentage sagged to 33%.

The major surprise in the top 10 all time 3pts% shooters for the Breakers is the appearance of Ben Thompson at number four on the list. The Australian guard played 48 games for the club between 2004-2006 and although his sample size is small compared with others on the list it’s an impressive percentage at a time when the Breakers were losing far more games than they were winning.

Seeing Phill Jones at the top of the list, marginally ahead of Kirk Penney, reminds us what a sweet shot the Reefton Kid had.
