The Sky City Breakers secured a valuable win on the first leg of the ‘Sunshine Swing” in Cairns on Friday night. The 79-71 victory against Cairns Taipans was driven by the import duo of Cedric Jackson and Ekine Ibekwe.
Jackson flirted with a triple double on his way to 9 points/7 rebounds/10 assists. His points haul took him past 1,000 points for the Breakers, Jackson reaching the mark in the same number of games (73) as former Breakers favourite Phill Jones. See the full list below
Ekene Ibekwe also had a stand out game securing his second double double of the season – 20 points/14 rebounds/2 blocks. The 14 rebounds equaled the record for the most boards by a Breakers player against Cairns.
Ibekwe’s eye catching performance came five days after he set a new Breakers club record of 6 blocked shots in a single game against Adelaide 36ers. Alex Pledger and Ben Pepper jointly held the previous record of 5 blocks.
