The 2014 Auckland Premier Basketball competition began on Friday night.
Rosmini College entertained Liston College in front of a vocal crowd at their Takapuna gym. There was standing room only as Rosmini made the better start leading 25-20 at the first break helped by triples from Judson Seumaau (9pts) and Patrick Robinson (20pts).
Five times Liston tied the scores in the second quarter but they couldn’t edge ahead of the hosts, Rosmini still in the lead 44-39 at half time.
It was neck and neck in the third period before Liston finally hit the front, Garrick Knight (14pts) scoring a deep three followed by a break away lay-up to give the boys from the west a 53-52 advantage.
This advantage was extended to 64-55 at the third interval and was still double digits deep into the final period. Quick scores from Jian De Vega (10pts) and Jacob Renea-Hamill (14pts) got the Rosmini supporters excited but their late charge wasn’t enough.
Liston, well paced by point guard Corban Felix (28pts) and forward Patrick Maagdenberg (22pts) ending Rosmini’s two year unbeaten home record with a deserved 79-76 victory.
