Back to back losses were not in the script for the SKY CITY Breakers last weekend. A dissapointing 88-68 loss against the Wollongong Hawks last Friday was followed by a closer encounter against the Adelaide 36ers on Sunday, the second placed 36ers edging a thriller 96-92. The two defeats leave the SKY CITY Breakers probably needing to win every remaining game to have a chance of making the play-offs.
Amongst the debris of two crushing losses there were a few notable individual performances and interesting stats.
0 – The number of Wollongong and Adelaide players that fouled out during the two games
6 – The number of Breakers players that fouled out over the two games (Vukona and Johnson twice and Frank and Abercrombie once). The foul count over the weekend was a lopsided 57-35 in favour of the home teams.
6 – A career high number of assists by Corey Webster against the 36ers to go with a season high 16 points.
10 – CJ Bruton wound back the clock to nail a couple of long range threes in the closing seconds of the Adelaide game. His 10 points was only his third double figure contribution this season, illustrating the diminishing powers of this once great player.
10:27 – The paltry amount of time Kerron Johnson spent on court against the Hawks.
14 – Gary Wilkinson amassed a career high 14 rebounds and added 13 points to record his 4th double double for the Breakers against the 36ers.
28 – The tireless Mika Vukona contributed his 28th career double double against the Hawks – 13 points and 11 rebounds.
1800 – Tom Abercrombie passed 1800 career points in the Wollongong game and moved to 3rd on the Breakers all time scoring list.
