Webster energises Breakers

The Sky City Breakers, spurred by 20 points performances from Kerron Johnson, Gary Wilkinson and Tom Abercrombie eventually overcame the Wollongong Hawks 106-101 at NSEC on Thursday evening. Twenty points or more from three Breakers players in the same game is a little unusual, last occurring against the Melbourne Tigers in last season’s penultimate regular season game.

Other numbers from the game:

3  An energetic Kerron Johnson produced his 3rd 21 points haul of the season, added a steal and a block but surprisingly he contributed zero assists.

5  Corey Webster was extremely active producing a career equaling high 5 assists and the type of all round game everyone who has followed his career want him to produce on a regular basis. On Sky TV Tab Baldwin described it as “The best game Corey has played for the Breakers”. In addition to hustling defence he also contributed 13pts, 3 boards and 3 steals which made for good points for my NBL Dream Team.

6  Casey Frank contributed 6pts (to go with 5 rebounds/3 assists/1 steal/1 block). His first points for the Breakers at the NSEC since scoring 4 points on November 28th, 2003 – ironically also against Wollongong.

8 The win against the Hawks was the Breakers 8th consecutive victory over the men from New South Wales.

58  The 58% three point shooting of the Breakers was their highest percentage of the season from beyond the arc. 9 from 9 combined three points shooting from Webster, Te Rangi and Wilkinson was impressive, though the two most important were the corner threes from Johnson and then Wilkinson in the final 64 seconds of the game.

100 Reuben Te Rangi’s three triples on consecutive plays late in the third quarter took him past 100 points for the Breakers.
