Harbour Complete Double

Winning the under 23 Womens National title in Tauranga was arguably more difficult than the Mens in terms of the physical load on the players. The mens competition was divided into two pools of six, therefore teams were faced with five round robin games and two play off games – seven games in total with just a single outing on the final day. Womens Finalists Found at Under 23’s

The Womens Under 23 Final to be played later today will be between North Harbour and Waikato. The two teams progressed to the final in differing fashion, the Harbour team cruising past Canterbury, the Waikato team winning a really tight game against Capital. Continue reading

Harbour join Counties in Final

The second semi between unbeaten North Harbour and Porirua promised to be a tight affair but Harbour got out the blocks the quickest leading 21-12 at quarter time. Continue reading

Mens Semi-finalist Found at Under 23’s

Qualification for semi final places from the Under 23 Mens Pool 1 was decided by two local derbies on day 3. Waitakere West took on Auckland and Wellington clashed with Porirua.

The two capital teams were evenly matched at half time but Porirua forged ahead in the third term. Continue reading

Harbour & Counties progress on Day 3

North Harbour secured top spot in Men’s pool 1, In the early game on day 3 but in order to do so they had to overcome a very committed Canterbury team. The scores were tied 45-45 at three quarter time, Harbour eventually edging a tight opne 62-56. Continue reading

Under 23 Nationals: Day 2

North Harbour are the early pace setters at the Mens Under 23 Nationals in Tauranga. Early on day two they had a decisive 103-93 victory over Counties Manukau (2-1)to take their record to 3-0. Two of the individual stars of the tournament went head to head, Isaac Fotu (29 points) leading the Harbour assault and getting the better of Reuben Te Rangi (12 points). Continue reading

Looking ahead to Under 23 Nationals

The Under 23 Nationals begin in Tauranga on Wednesday. It is hard to get a handle on who will be appearing and for which Assosciation as players move more freely and readily at this age group. Tall Fern Biographies

Kalani Purcell follows in her older sister’s footsteps as she becomes the newest Tall Fern in the Purcell family

The squad boasts four players who played in the 2012/13 WNBL in Australia. Lisa Wallbutton , Toni Edmondson and debutant Kate Fielding played under Tall Ferns coach Kennedy Hamilton-Kereama at Perth for West Coast Waves, and Micaela Cocks played for beaten finalists Townsville Fire. Wallbutton, Cocks and Edmondson are current internationals and will provide the back bone of the team along with Jordan Hunter and Casey Lockwood – the seven other players are all debutants.

Micaela Cocks – North Harbour Micaela was a stand out player at Oregan University (MVP in her senior year) before embarking on a professional career that took her briefly to Poland and France. She has played for the Townsville Fire for the past two seasons. Continue reading

Undermanned Academy lose to Athletes In Action

The Breakers Academy and Athletes in Action squared off for the second time in three days at Atlas Place on Saturday night. Due to injuries and the unavailability of some team members the Breakers once again called on the services of Nick Barrow and Saman Mohammadi. Continue reading
